Fellow Voyager:
Thank you for your interest in The Voyage – a 5-day men’s ‘walking retreat’ taking place this November on the North Shore of O’ahu, Hawaii, an experience purposefully shaped by the movement and spirit of the Hawaiian voyagers as a guide for men’s journeys.
If you’re reading this, that might mean something inside you is stirring. And perhaps that means a journey for you has already begun. A journey that will continue on The Voyage.
Maybe you’ve never done something like this before. OR maybe this is familiar space.
The Voyage is not a typical retreat.
It is a crossing.
A purposeful turning towards.
It is designed for 12 men who sense a shift inside them.
Who are questioning and stretching. Who are navigating a moment of transition, growth, or realignment in their lives. Who are open to sharing stories, wrestling with honest questions, hiking beautiful trails together, and being shaped by the spirit of Hawai’i – its land, water, and energy.
Through daily hikes (5-12 miles), shared conversations, and immersive cultural activities like paddling outrigger canoes, surfing, and digging into hands-on community service work, participants will explore themes of purpose, connection, and growth. Each experience long our 5 days and 4 nights together is structured to help you reflect on where you are and consider where you might be going next. And to feel truly alive.
On the trails of O’ahu, we’ll be guided by the stories of Hawaiian wayfinders and the salt of the Pacific. We will rise with the sun. We will walk miles on forest, summit, and shoreline trails. And we will return with salt on our skin and something new in our bones.
The trails will work on us. So will the ocean and night sky. So will the presence of [good]men walking beside you. So will their stories and questions. Adventure and connection aren’t opposites. In fact, together they make this journey transformative.
See below for full details on the basecamp, itinerary, cost, and registration.
IF you feel drawn to this experience, we invite you to reach out and apply.
Aloha. And We hope to see you on trail.

Our Experience
We begin each day
with a guided hike through sacred and stunning landscapes. From trails that stretch five to thirteen miles, our mornings will be dedicated to exploration and reflection as we walk shoulder-to-shoulder.
In the afternoons and early evenings
we step into a unique set of custom experiences to deepen our understanding of land, culture,...and ourselves. We’ll learn to paddle outrigger canoes as a team, connect with local experts and storytellers, try our hand at surfing, volunteer on an eco-farm, and study the wisdom of traditional Hawaiian navigator schools.
Each night
we gather together to share meals and stories by fire, deepening our collective experience of the day’s theme.
TH 11/20 - “The Edge of Arrival”:
How might we genuinely introduce ourselves and set purposeful intentions for what lies ahead?
F 11/21 - “Climbing Into Perspective”:
How might we commit to explore with curiosity?
SA 11/22 - “Inner Compass Navigation”:
How might we create space for new possibility?
SU 11/23 - “Taking a Long View”:
How might we frame a purposeful horizon line and leave a legacy that honors our spirit and gifts?
M 11/24 - “Launching the Next Voyage”:
How might we return home with clarity, being part of something greater than ourselves?

Daily Hikes
Each morning begins with a guided trail hike, ranging from 5 to 13 miles.

The Voyage IS
Brotherhood and Connection
As we get older, building friendships and finding meaningful male support becomes more and more challenging. Here, we believe it is an absolute priority.
Curiosity-Driven Conversations
Join purpose-driven men for meaningful conversations centered on your life’s unique “works > in > progress”.
Be surrounded by men who are holding space for you to explore. And who simply listen.
On Trail Adventure and Deeply Local Experiences
Break a sweat.
Breathe fresh air.
Connect back to nature.
Enjoy Pacific sunrises, morning intention-setting, guided conversations along shoreline and summit hikes, diving into the surf, connecting with local storytellers, volunteering in the community, solo moments for quiet reflection, and nourishing outdoor dinners and fireside evenings.
The Voyage IS NOT
Not Therapy, Not All Talk
This retreat is about purposeful exploration and taking tangible steps forward.
Understanding our inner life and emotional perspective will be vital to the experience.
That can be therapeutic. But this retreat is not a counseling group.
Not a ‘Guys Weekend’ Hangout nor Pitch Event
This is not a bunch of dudes coming to let time go by, mindlessly drink on the beach, and ignore real world responsibilities. There’s a time and place for that, but it’s not this experience.
This is about who you are, not what you do. Every man you’ll join brings professional talent and experience to The Voyage. But they are not here to make deals or offer market-ready solutions.
Not a Holiday
We’ll invest in your health and energy the entire time. This is a chance to embrace physical challenge within a stunning tropical setting. This isn’t, however, a spa nor is it about lying on the beach all day.

I find inspiration in the beauty of Hawai'i, the Ocean, and the voyaging traditions that bind them together.
With degrees in Neuroscience, Education and Biomimicry, I’m passionate about discovering and reflecting nature’s wisdom to address the challenges faced by our Blue Planet home.
From my home in Hawai'i, I launched Pacific Blue Studios to empower our communities to grow a resilient future. We co-create innovative platforms that blend indigenous perspectives with cutting-edge technology to explore, connect and care for our places.
Over the last two decades, I’ve traveled the world, building connections amongst new friends that span the globe. My journey has taken me to over 80 countries across 7 continents and the worldʻs oceans, where I’ve met and nurtured a global network of explorers and change-makers.
When I'm able, I prefer to travel slowly, walking or paddling or sailing at the speed of the Natural world.

I come alive out on trail. In the company of good humans. Exploring living questions in the beauty of nature.
I spent the first 30 years of my career focused on the world of schools: first as an HS educator, varsity coach, outdoor education and trip leader, and summer camp counselor; second as a school designer and planner, consultant, strategist, and speaker. This journey has taken me around the world supporting young people and clients: leading a multi-week student trip on a sailboat in the Bahamas; running an HS English classroom in an RV exploring the US without a map; guiding a retreat for school leaders in the mountains of Japan; leading professional development in Russia, South Africa, Mexico, Poland, and Australia; running a student design program in New Zealand; and helping to plan and design schools from Atlanta to Vancouver to Memphis to DC.
Today I lead the [bon]fire consultancy, helping leaders and teams shape purposeful futures together; and [good]men, an initiative to create space for conversations and experiences to help men connect to their purpose and possibility. This involves half-day experiences, multi-day retreats, executive coaching, and more.
Testimonials
The retreat challenged both my mind and body in unexpected ways.
Mentally, it pushed me to rethink my relationships with other men. Witnessing vulnerability and openness in others allowed me to be fully present for their journeys while creating space to share mine.
Physically, on the trail and off, I was tested beyond what I thought I could. In those moments, I discovered my resilience and how I could show up for others.

It was more than just an experience.
This 'basecamp' weekend reinforced my hope in men and confirmed that our lives are significantly more than our own bubble-life of experiences.
I arrived at this 'basecamp' weekend apprehensive and, frankly, only going because of Christian and the trust I have in him, and I exited the weekend changed, and fulfilled, and a better man because of my 9 other brothers I broke bread with.
Gary R.
Our weekend in the woods exceeded my expectations beyond what I could've imagined.
There simply aren't enough spaces where men feel comfortable to challenge themselves on a deeply personal level -- while finding strength in those wrestling with their own works in progress. I was surrounded by men from a variety of backgrounds who all shared a common goal: make ourselves, our families and the world around us better.
I left the retreat feeling inspired and -- for the first time in a while -- full of hope of what's to come.
Deron M.
The hikes were a great place to work on just being present! For self-reflection and quieting the mind.
As we quickly got to know each other, the conversations with other good men, who are coming from the same sense of curiosity, became a safe space to share my “works > in > progress” and have those deeper conversations,
Mike G.
Don't cheat yourself, take this opportunity to invest in your emotional intelligence. You are worth it.
Todd H.
Everything! I loved it. I was able to find a way trust myself as well the men with us. Amazingly, the relationships came quickly and that allowed us to relax and enjoy the ride.

[good]men’s “basecamp”: a starting point, a destination, a journey?
Environment is key as it speaks to purpose; it speaks to the endeavor; it's prosaic yet deeply personal. I’ve always found a heightened level of connectivity within myself and fellow travelers when I am actively engaged with the natural environment, where the day-to-day noise and hustle of my life is replaced with simple physical toil and the clarity of thought that toil brings.
“Works>in>progress” helped to frame a personal question and engendered a space where, through vulnerability, I experienced a positive demonstration of masculinity, real conversations with men being their most genuine. I reflect on that experience, realizing that the challenge now is carrying this forward—not just in moments of reflection but in daily life. It’s one thing to find a space where people hold you; it’s another to take those lessons and live them out, but now I know I do not toil alone.
